I suppose I thought Lucas would grow up here in Dover just as I did. However, God had different plans. We're taking a step of faith and moving to West Palm Beach in July. We have absolutely loved living so close to family and now look forward to many weekend visits! Thankfully Lucas is young enough where he won't really understand what's going on to be too sad, but in some ways that makes it challenging because I know he'll be very confused about it all. I'm sure he'll adapt quickly and Skype can be our new best friend!
Lately he has been a lot of fun. We took a family vacation up to Walterboro in March and he fell in love with Sarah and Jon's dog, Carl. He still asks about Carl from time to time, sometimes even including him in a rendition of Old McDonald. We're definitely not planning on getting him a dog anytime soon but it was nice to see him overcome some of his fear. Next visit we'll work on his fear of horses!
During part of that trip Lucas and I went to Branford, FL to meet up with some camp peeps to record a new camp CD. We had a great time and Lucas had a ton of fun with Winston and Avery.
He went through a frustrating "NO" stage for several weeks but early in April he got pretty sick with a high fever and was very cuddly for several days. Once he finally got better he seemed to return, for the most part, to his sweet self. Of course there are times when he shouts, "Not fair!" and slams the door or has a pouting moment or two but for the most part he is well behaved and listens to us. We even made it through a Sunday lunch with Matt and Sarah where Lucas was the perfect little guy. We were surprised since he'd had several rough weeks before that eating out after church but lately he's been doing well.
We're slowly still working on potty training. Some days are easy. Some days are... long. We'd love to have him potty trained before the move but I'm not rushing him. I've learned that he is as strong willed as I am and when there's no need to really push him I just wait for his timing.
We spend most of our lunches eating as a family and watching Ralph and Lucas' new favorite show "Phineas and Ferb". A rather funny show that the whole family can enjoy. There are so few of those these days. He also loves music...usually on car rides I'm stuck listening to Veggie Tales. The B-I-B-L-E and Holy is the Lord are his most common requests. He also likes a CD we got from Aunt Ange called Alphabet Zoo (definitely not one of Ralph's favorites!). He will walk around the house singing Old McDonald, Alphabet Zoo or the B-I-B-L-E. He's getting better with recognizing his letters and numbers. He has an excellent memory too. A few weeks ago I threw out a few old bath toys and last night he asked where they were. Thankfully he accepted me telling him they were too dirty to keep.
Overall, being Lucas' mommy has been a true joy and blessing. I'm looking forward to our next chapter where I can be a full-time stay at home mom. I think it will be a challenge being so far from family but fun meeting and making new friends for both of us. I think I say this on most of my blog entries but I certainly want to keep this up more consistently once we move so be sure to call me out if I forget:)
