So today is 9/9/09. And that means Lucas is already 9 1/2 months old! We've had a busy summer with so many firsts for us.
He started eating baby food pretty regularly around 6 months old. He really has enjoyed eating! Many babies seem to get stuck on just fruits and sweet potatoes but Lucas ate green beans and peas with little hesitation. He's now eating pretty much anything you give him. He's not a huge fan of the meat from the baby food jars...but I can't say I blame him. We've started feeding him some table food such as eggs, baked potatoes, cheese, and cantaloupe. He especially likes the cheese and fruit and of course "puffs". They are like magic! He calms down virtually any time he has them.
He started crawling a little before seven months. He started pulling up on the couches around the same time. The first time he pulled up on the couch I just started laughing. I couldn't believe he was already doing it! It didn't take him long to take off crawling all over the place and cruising around the couches. We bought a gate to close off the kitchen so he has free reign of the living room and really enjoys playing with his toys. He has gotten where he can just entertain himself with his toys for quite awhile. He pushes his books all over the carpet like they're cars. He loves story time which he has each night with Daddy. Ralph knows he's done once he's thrown all of the books on the floor. I guess that's his signal that he's ready for bed!
We also had a first during Vacation Bible School in June. Lucas had just turned seven months and started sleeping through the night! What a thrill. With all of his sleep craziness I wasn't really expecting that...just hoping! We hit a little bump when we went off to camp for two weeks. His whole schedule was thrown off but within a few weeks of coming home he was back to sleeping all night. Of course there are the occasional wakeups through the night when he can't get back to sleep on his own. I think it's usually connected with teething.
Speaking of teething he now has 5 teeth! He got his first tooth when he was 8 months old and they've just kept coming. He looks like such a little boy now.
He also spent his first night away from home last month. Ralph and I went to a Rays game that got over well past his bed time so he stayed with the grandparents. We're leaving him again for an entire weekend while we take the youth group to rock the universe. Another first for all of us.
His naptimes have improved overall. He usually takes two naps a day with usually at least one of them (if not both) lasting over an hour. This has greatly helped me to have some time to get things done or just take time to relax.
He's close to standing up by himself. He'll do it now for a second or two at a time. I wouldn't be surprised if he's an early walker.
He's learned to wave, give mommy and daddy kisses, and bounce when he gets excited. It seems like he's learning something new everyday. He's such an amazing baby and I love him more and more. I know I've said it each time but time really does just fly. I can't believe how he's grown and all the things he's accomplished. Now we just need to work on him saying "mama"!
