I'm a little over 7 months pregnant and at 31 weeks. Time is really flying these days. It seems unbelievable that in about two months time we will have Lucas here with us. The last few weeks have been pretty eventful for me.
Labor Day weekend Ralph and I made a plan to spend some time getting the house organized...or at least a start. We spent basically the whole day Saturday cleaning out our big closet in the office. We really do keep way too much junk. So we cleaned out almost the entire closet and then moved on to the junk room hopefully soon to be baby room. We made some good headway with getting stuff organized but still have a long way to go. It was exhausting but I enjoyed working toward the goal of getting the baby room ready. Hopefully this upcoming weekend we can continue working on organizing!
The next weekend in September Ralph and I, along with our youth group, went to Rock the Universe at Universal Studios for the weekend. I also spent part of the weekend at Big Splash with the Camp Suwannee Band leading worship. I can overall say I had an enjoyable weekend. However I have come to realize that theme parks are definitely NOT made for pregnant women. I spent most of my time at the park trying to find a place to sit and wait that was reasonably cool and if possible a place I could put my feet up. By the end of Saturday night I had full fledged "cankles". So even though it wasn't the best set up for being almost seven months pregnant it did seem that the youth really had a great time so overall the weekend went well.
Coming back from the weekend I spent most of Monday laying on the couch trying to recuperate. That week Angela and Richard (my sister and brother-in-law) went on a vacation to Hawaii. So my parents and I had the fun responsibility of taking care of Drew (my 9 month old nephew). Mom and I worked out a deal where she would keep him at night and I would watch him during the day. My house however has a mold issue and Michael pointed out that it probably wouldn't be good for Drew to be over here. So I would get up each morning and spend most of the day over at mom and dad's helping take care of Drew. It was a really good experience for me. Of course I didn't have to deal with the 3am wakeups but I did get to change a lot of diapers. I have discovered that Baby Einstein really is magic and Wheel of Fortune and the JG Wentworth commercial seems to work well too. Drew is so incredibly active at this stage, but whenever those things came on TV he would usually stop whatever he was doing and just stare at the TV. He was so much fun and so tiring. I overall really enjoyed my week though. One of the cutest things I thought was when I would be holding Drew feeding him or rocking him to sleep and Lucas would start kicking him. I guess he's already jealous of me giving attention elsewhere. I'm sure there will be many more "fights" between the boys as they grow up.
Ralph and I also started our child birth classes over at St Joseph's Hospital on Thursday evenings. It's a three week course. The first class was pretty interesting. We got to take a tour of the hospital and get a lot of my questions answered about checking in and what type of room we would be in and so forth. I'm glad we're going to St Joe's for the delivery. I just hope we're not trying to get there during 5 o'clock traffic or a Bucs game!
Yesterday I went to the doctor for a routine checkup. The doctor said everything was going well. I love the fact that we get to hear the baby's heartbeat. I just wish we could see him again with an ultrasound. I was a little concerned that I was gaining too much weight but I my doctor just said, "You're gaining weight. Good." So I guess I'm doing fine. Still trying to avoid those gallons of ice cream but getting harder to resist sometimes.
I'm now at the stage where I start going to the doctor every two weeks. I feel like time is just speeding up and slowing down at the same time. We have so much work that needs to get done on our house-- a new roof, cleaning out the mold, a new kitchen, and maybe even a new room. I hope things can move a long so I can finally get started on decorating the baby room. It's already FULL of clothes from Angela that Drew has out grown! If any one asks what I need...tell them I have tons of clothes and diapers and wipes would be great!
